webcomics
For quite a while I have been following about 5 webcomics on a daily/weekly basis.
Some of them are quite well know, others not so much but the one thing they all have in common: their followers are very loyal and can get upset if they miss their regular dose.
Webcomics have been around since about 1985, starting with an unauthorized wizard of oz comic "witches and stitches" on compuserve (see the wikipedia article on it's author)
The difference between these and traditional print cartoons (most of which also have web versions) is that any kid can open up ms paint and start a comic which is sometimes way better. Also they are not limited to the number of panels or even panels themselves, basically the possibilities are endless. They can be animated or partly animated, interactive or basically anything their creators want them to be
To get a better  idea of the sheer amount of webcomics out there, you need to look at either the wikipedia list of webcomics or a website such as the webcomic list (which monitors over 15000 webcomics)
I can tell you this - there are a load of really horrible ones out there, but for each of those there are plenty of really good ones.
Much like blogs, webcomics are not out there to make their creators rich and famous, which is not to say that there aren't some successful ones, but rather because its their passion to create the webcomics.
I have noticed a trend of these webcomics starting their own online stores where they have webcomic-related merchandise.

If you want to try a few i would suggest one of the following:

The Oatmeal by Matthew Inman
- If you know me, you will know that I regularly post links to the oatmeal. I just can't get enough, especially the grammar lessons

Amazing Super Powers by Wes & Tony
- I love this webcomic not just because it makes my day twice a week, but because of the "easter eggs". The first is the caption that pops up when you hover your cursor over the comic. But the best of all is the hidden comic: if you move your cursor next to the top right hand corner of the comic a question mark appears. If you click on this, it opens up the hidden comic relating to the main comic.

BlankIt by Lemmo Pew and Aric Mckeown
- This is a sequential comic that has been running since June 2008, so if you feel inclined to read this one, you have some serious catching up to do. It is a story about 2 guys that wake up in a blank world and as they go on their adventures weird and wacky things start appearing out of nowhere, including the cookie king and his cookies, walking palaces, ethereal people that appear when given names...

Cyanide & Happiness by Matt, Dave, Rob & Kris
- If you haven't heard of it you must be under a rock somewhere. Over a million daily visitors and in the top 2000 most visited sites according to alexa.com.

Orneryboy by Michael Lalonde
This is one of my favourites about a boy (Orneryboy), a girl (Dirtygirl), their pet zombie (Brian) and their 2 cats.
Its a sequential comic that's been going since 2006 and consists of 393 strips to date.

But if none of these are your cup of tea, go along to the webcomic list and browse through their database until you find something you like. but do yourself a favour, read at least one; we all need laughter

apology
I have to apologise to everyone that has visited my blog over the last few days and had to put up with the ads across the top of the screen... I have been using a link service called linkbee that pays per link that I create. Unfortunately I was choosing the wrong option and it created a stupid banner across each page at the top.
I have now fixed it and it now displays the link intended without ads

If u had to put up with that...

While I am talking about linkbee though, if you have a website or blog and would like to make some cash out of the links that you post on your website/blog, check it out by clicking here
foursquare
For the past week I have been passively checking out something I found while stumbling the interwebs: it is a location based social service called "foursquare"

After looking through a couple of blogs and sites talking about the service I have to admit I love the idea! That was until I started trying to find people in my area that use it... I then hit a brick wall as while it is huge in the States and even the UK, in South Africa and specifically Port Elizabeth, it is basically non-existent.
But I am not going to let that get me down - up until now I was using it passively (read: not at all)
I have come to the decision that until it does reach us properly here, I am going all out and checking in wherever I go. my goal: when businesses in PE start offering "mayor" specials, I'll be the king!! Only kidding, but I am going to try my best to promote it to people I know

To give you a short description of what it is all about, foursquare is a location-based social networking website, software for mobile devices, and game. users "check-in" at venues using text messaging or a device specific application. They are then awarded points and sometimes "badges." (Taken from Wikipedia)

In other words, say for example you are going to Balizza nightclub tonight, you either "create" the venue on foursquare if it doesn't exist or "check in" at the venue and your friends will be able to see that you are there. Besides this, lets say Balizza has decided to award foursquare users, they will offer a mayors special (a mayor is someone who has the most "check ins" at a specific venue) of a free drink or entrance etc.
Also if you are traveling around a city that you don't know, you want to know which are the hot venues to go to, you can check for these on foursquare. Businesses who are awarding foursquare users can also possibly offer specials to foursquare users

Honestly I think the possibilities are quite endless for the average user and for businesses awarding foursquare users, as they will bring in clients that might have just gone by to the next spot.

Am i being too optimistic? Hopefully not, but I am going to definitely try to promote this!

HOW TO SIGN UP AND USE FOURSQARE
- Go to their website: foursquare
- Sign up and choose your username
- If u have an iPhone, Blackberry or Android phone, this is very easy
- Go to the shop/market/app store and download the app
- Otherwise, for all other phones just use the mobile site (http://foursquare.com/mobile/)

ninja assassin
today i went and watched a movie which i knew very little about (which is good as i had no expectations) called ninja assassin

in short, the plot sucks, but honestly, this doesn't even matter that much! if you are looking for a movie that involves some awesome fight scenes and is pure entertainment, this is the one to go watch! the movie is bloody, although it is cgi blood, and is pumped out of the bodies (of which there a LOT) at about 200 psi.
i still don't know why they decided to include the whole crappy EUROPOL angle, because in my opinion this is what screwed it over...
it got some seriously mixed reviews but in short it is a great ninja movie and a bad movie otherwise.

to get an idea look at the reviews below:
metacritic - metascore: 34/100, user score: 6.6/10
imdb - 6.7/10 (5588 votes)
rotten tomatoes - 26%

Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!"
Delta 351: "Give us another hint!  We have digital watches!"

Tower: "TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 degrees."
TWA 2341: "Center, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?"
Tower: "Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?"

From an unknown aircraft waiting in a very long takeoff line: "I'm f...ing bored!"
Ground Traffic Control: "Last aircraft transmitting, identify yourself immediately!"
Unknown aircraft: "I said I was f...ing bored, not f...ing stupid!"

O'Hare Approach Control to a 747: "United 329 heavy, your traffic is a Fokker, one o'clock, three miles, Eastbound."
United 329: "Approach, I've always wanted to say this... I've got the little Fokker in sight."

A student became lost during a solo cross-country flight.  While attempting to locate the aircraft on radar, ATC asked, "What was your last known position?"
Student: "When I was number one for takeoff."

A DC-10 had come in a little hot and thus had an exceedingly long roll out after touching down.
San Jose Tower Noted: "American 751, make a hard right turn at the end of the runway, if you are able.  If you are not able, take the Guadeloupe exit off Highway 101, make a right at the lights and return to the airport."

A Pan Am 727 flight, waiting for start clearance in Munich , overheard the following:
Lufthansa (in German):  "Ground, what is our start clearance time?"
Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English."
Lufthansa  (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany . Why must I speak English?"
Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you lost the bloody war!"

Tower:  "Eastern 702, cleared for takeoff, contact Departure on frequency 124.7"
Eastern 702:  "Tower, Eastern 702 switching to Departure. By the way, after we lifted off we saw some kind of dead animal on the far end of the runway."
Tower:  "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff behind Eastern 702, contact Departure on frequency 124.7.  Did you copy that report from Eastern 702?"
Continental 635:  "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff, roger; and yes, we copied Eastern... we've already notified our caterers."

One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short of the active runway while a DC-8 landed. The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee. Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said,

"What a cute little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?"
The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a real zinger: "I made it out of DC-8 parts.  Another landing like yours and I'll have enough parts for another one."

The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign: Speedbird 206.

Speedbird 206:  " Frankfurt , Speedbird 206!  Clear of active runway."
Ground:  "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."
The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground:  "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206:  "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."
Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly):  "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- And I didn't land."

While taxiing at London's Gatwick Airport , the crew of a US Air flight departing for Ft. Lauderdale made a wrong turn and came nose to nose with a United 727.
An irate female ground controller lashed out at the US Air crew, screaming: "US Air 2771, where the hell are you going?  I told you to turn right onto Charlie taxiway!  You turned right on Delta!  Stop right there.  I know it's difficult for you to tell the difference between C and D, but get it right!"
Continuing her rage to the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting hysterically: "God!  Now you've screwed everything up!  It'll take forever to sort this out!  You stay right there and don't move till I tell you to!  You can expect progressive taxi instructions in about half an hour, and I want you to go exactly where I tell you, when I tell you, and how I tell you!  You got that, US Air 2771?"
"Yes, ma'am," the humbled crew responded.
Naturally, the ground control communications frequency fell terribly silent after the verbal bashing of US Air 2771.  Nobody wanted to chance engaging the irate ground controller in her current state of mind.  Tension in every cockpit out around Gatwick was definitely running high.  Just then an unknown pilot broke the silence and keyed his microphone, asking:
"Wasn't I married to you once?"
